MARSHALL, Mich. -- The traditional job of a rodeo clown is to distract charging bulls and provide a little comic relief, right? But visitors to a recent rodeo in Michigan weren't laughing when the clown started making jokes about gender identity.

"You're either a boy or a girl. Y'all understand?" rodeo clown Rockin' Robbie Hodges asked the crowd at the Calhoun County Fair in Marshall, Michigan. "If you're confused, you need help."

Hodges didn't stop with his comments there. He continued addressing the crowd saying, "Everybody in here who's really sure they're a boy, raise your hand" and adding, "If you can tinkle on a fire, you go to the boys' room. If you can't, you go to the girls' room, right?"

The fair goer who recorded the video asked to remain anonymous, but submitted the video to FOX17 in West Michigan.

The company providing the clown, Lost Nations Rodeo, provided this statement:

"Lost Nations Rodeo was unaware that those comments would be made and were off script. Hodges is a well-decorated entertainer, and while we appreciate his services, we do not share the same views or opinions. We sincerely apologize again to all of our fans and look forward to entertaining you in the future."

The company also noted that Hodges was hired to perform only at this rodeo.
