TORONTO — Rob Ford, embattled and hard-partying former mayor of Toronto, has died at 46.
Ford’s family said he was at Mount Sinai Hospital fighting cancer and receiving palliative for a malignant lipsarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer that doctors say spread from fatty tissue in his abdomen to other parts of his body.
Ford served as mayor of Toronto from 2010 to 2014. He gained worldwide notoriety in May 2012 when cell phone video appeared to show him smoking crack cocaine.
He spent two months in rehab and had launched a re-election bid when he was diagnosed with cancer.
