GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – So, what’s in a name? Apparently a lot. That’s why the name “Isis” has been officially retired as a naming option by the United Nation’s World Meteorological Organization.
The name was originally associated with the ancient Egyptian goddess. But now it’s used by the Islamic State terrorist group. So deep-sixing Isis seems like a no brainer. Hurricanes are already scary enough, right?
They replaced the now controversial name with Ivette.
Odile is the other name that’s been retired from use. That name was removed at the request of Mexico due to the fatalities and damage Hurricane Odile caused last year. It’s been replaced with Odalys.
So, choosing a name isn’t just a job for parents. Let’s cross our fingers that none of these storms grow up to be big and strong.
