WICHITA, Kansas -- What really happened at Cowboys running back Joseph Randle's hotel last week? Cops say they were initially there on a domestic violence call.  They booked him for having pot then dropped those charges.

Now we're hearing from Randle's ex-girlfriend, who made this 9-1-1 call.

Caller: "He, he, he pointed the gun in front of the mother of his child, and he pointed it in front of this other female. We have our child here, and he has a lot of weed."

But wait! There's more!

Caller: "He pointed a gun in front of somebody`s car, and then, he busted her window open."

A few minutes later, cops got another call.

Caller: "You guys don't have to worry about it.  We just talked it out.  We just talked it out.  It's fine.  Everything's fine... It's all a misunderstanding."

Are you thinking what we're thinking?  Pretty weird it went from a broken window, a gun and weed... to nothing. The dispatcher was suspicious, too.

911 Dispatcher:  "Is that something you have to say because someone's there with you?"
Caller: "No."

Cops still showed up. Once it was all over, the ex filed for a protection order against Randle. We haven't heard anything new from Randle or the Cowboys.

We'll have to wait to see what the cops figure out, 'cause an incident like this can kill an NFL career.
