ORLANDO, FL — Who needs Superman when you have Superboys? Two middle school kids didn’t even think twice when they ran into a burning home and rescued two babies in Florida.
“We looked out the window and saw flames coming out of the house,” 11-year-old Jeremiah Grimes told WESH. “(It was) really hot. It felt like 150 degrees in there. I’m just thinking, ‘Stay calm, keep your mind straight, stay focused on what you’re doing.’”
Jeremiah and his friend, 10-year-old Isiah Francis, managed to find the babies — ages 8 months and 1 — in the kitchen.
“I was freaking out trying to get the babies out before they got hurt or something happened. I found my way outside and I took the two kids to my house,” Isiah explained.
Firefighters also reached a two-year-old and five-year-old boy who were trapped inside. They were rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
Their 19-year-old father also made it out.
Fire officials believe the fire started near a doorway between the living room and a bedroom. It’s unclear how it started. But what is clear — things could have been much worse if not for Superboys.
“I saved two people’s lives. Like, probably if no one did that, them two would probably be dead or seriously injured,” Jeremiah said. “I’m happy. As long as everyone is OK, I’m happy.”
And when asked if they would do it again…
