HOUSTON, TX – Cell phone video shows a tenth grade girl being pinned down by HISD cops as she screams in terror.
Ixel Perez says she knows she broke the rules by talking on the phone in the hallway at Sam Houston High School, but she says that doesn’t justify excessive force.
“They put me down on the ground, one of them was bending my arms… the other had his knee in my face,” she says.
Ixel says she was talking to her mom who’s sick.
“My mom is disabled. She has 15 percent of her kidneys.”
At a protest Wednesday morning September 3, parents and students called for changes in the administration. Perez’s mother, Gladys Santos, says she wants the principal, assistant principal and three officers to be let go.
For their part, the district says: “The safety of our students at Sam Houston High School and of all our schools is always our absolute top priority. The HISD police department and the school’s administration are continuing their investigations of what led to the detainment of a female student yesterday.”
