ARLINGTON- Marimba is a ringtone that everyone’s heard before. In fact, you might have it set as your ringtone right now.

“Whenever someone’s phone goes off we all check our pockets,” said UTA student Umair Ali.

He felt it needed an upgrade.

“So I made this ringtone and my whole family and all my friends wanted it; and we have the same issue because everyone has the same ringtone again.”

Word spread quickly about Ali’s remixes. He saw an opportunity to make some quick gas money. Well, that gas cash was more than Ali expected.

His ringtones made it to number one on iTunes selling over 200,000 copies.

“I was speechless. I’m above Iggy Azalea, Pharrell. I’m above all these huge artists,” Ali said.

He didn’t let all the success go to his head. He just wanted to make his folks proud, especially his Mom who passed away in 2011.

“I said my goodbyes to her and I promised I would take care of my family.”

That’s exactly what Ali is doing, but he doesn’t want to stop with just ringtones. He also wants to produce music and work with major label artists.
