DALLAS — It’s been exactly one week since Dallas dentist Kendra Hatcher was gunned down in her Uptown parking garage. And now, the mystery of who killed her and why may be unraveling.
Police say the only suspect, 23-year-old Crystal Cortes, confessed to driving the getaway car. She’s charged with capital murder. And according to search warrants, she told cops she conspired with the ex-girlfriend of Hatcher’s new boyfriend.
Cortes told investigators she was paid $500 to drive the Jeep Cherokee seen in surveillance pictures, and she believed her male passenger was only going to rob Hatcher.
But once she got there, she says he exited the vehicle and shot the popular dentist to death. DPD reportedly spent hours searching the ex-girlfriend’s Uptown apartment Tuesday. Witnesses say cops confiscated a notebook computer.
So far, no criminal charges have been filed against the ex-girlfriend, who has not been publicly named.
Meanwhile, there’s a small makeshift memorial outside Smile Zone in Irving where Kendra Hatcher’s co-workers are trying to make sense of this senseless murder.
