DALLAS – Folks at Dallas’ 311 call center are walkin’ it out and shedding some major pounds on the clock thanks to treadmill desks – or Trek Desks.

"It's always been a concern with the city because we have so many thousands of employees,” Steve Walker said. “There's always health concerns on what we can do to make ourselves healthier.

So last year, the department added these sedentary substitutes which come with all the equipment they needed to do their due diligence.

Now, some folks raised their eyebrows at the idea of a walking work station.

"Initially I wasn't on board with this idea,” Amanda Straley said. "After I gave it a try I found how useful it was."

You’d think there would be a lot of huffing and puffing going on, right? Wrong!

"We're actually quite comfortable,” Beverly Moore said. “We can talk to the customers while we're walking and the customers, they have no idea that we're walking on the treadmill."

Most of the folks at the 311 center are just walking off the weight, one call at a time.

"I've lost 15 pounds and my blood pressure has actually went back down to 120,” Moore said.

How’s that for treading lightly? Hey, who said losing weight at work isn’t a walk in the park?
