ORLANDO, FL — Little did anyone know, this would be the last tweet Christina Grimmie ever sent out:

Hours later – shortly after she put on that concert she was so excited about – she was shot to death while signing autographs.
“They were selling merchandise and signing autographs. we know that the suspect walked up and shot Christina. At that point, we know that her brother tackled the suspect and that’s when the suspect shot himself,” said Sgt. Wanda Ford of the Orlando Police Department.
Grimmie made a name for herself on season six of “The Voice” — where she wowed the judges from the very beginning.
She ended up finishing in the top three that season. The show tweeted this out after the news broke:
There are no words. We lost a beautiful soul with an amazing voice. Our hearts go out to the friends, fans and family of @TheRealGrimmie.

Others joined in the outpouring of sorrow, including Carson Daly, Blake Shelton, and Demi Lovato:

Orlando police say the man who shot and killed Grimmie isn’t from Orlando and it appears he traveled to the concert specifically to kill her.
“What our detectives are doing right now is they’re going through the suspect’s cell phone and computer to see if they could find a motive for this crime,” said OPD Chief John W. Mina
She touched a lot of people with her talent, and there’s no doubt she’ll be missed. A talented singer who’s career was cut way too short because of a senseless murder.
