FAIR PARK — It’s easily one of the most recognizable, iconic musicals, and starting Tuesday, The Sound of Music will come alive on stage at the Music Hall at Fair Park.

“It’s a redo of a very historical production,” President and Managing Director of Dallas Summer Musicals Michael Jenkins told NewsFix.

“It’s the same story, but a whole new look at The Sound of Music. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical.

But, before families fill the seats and sing along to their “favorite things” – five local groups are vying to be the next Von Trapp singers of North Texas.

Yeah, forget about The Voice, this is the Dallas Summer Musicals Sing-off. All five groups hope their pipes will win them free tickets to a performance.

“It’s great fun, it’s great interest and a big involvement in social media for our younger audience,” Jenkins said.

Guess what, friends — you can help The Sound of Music singers by heading to the DSM website and casting your vote. The online poll remains open until opening night, November 3rd.

Want more music and more chances to win free seats to the show? Checkout the DSM Facebook page for the Finish the Lyric challenge.

Hey, that’s we call starting the season on a high note.
