AUSTIN,TX -- To pack or not to pack? That question has been the target of debate among some folks in North Texas.

Hey, how many times have we seen Open Carry Tarrant County rallying from street lights to sidewalks, pushing for their right to carry handguns in public? Well, on Thursday, the issue was in the crosshairs at the Capitol. State senators discussed two proposed gun bills.

The first would give folks who currently have a handgun permit, a shot at packing publicly.

The second proposal takes aim at guns on college campuses. If passed, the bill would allow licensed holders to pack heat on public campuses.

How's that for getting schooled?!

The gun battle doesn't end there. Closer to home in Anna, school officials met Thursday night to openly discuss what's called the defender program.

The proposal calls for campus cops to arm teachers with the skills to shoot for protection and student safety.

Back in Austin, no word yet if the loaded bill will make it to the house floor. But no doubt, it'll trigger lots of debate.
