DALLAS — ‘Tis the season, unfortunately, for getting sick! The cold and flu season even took me down for three days last week. So I thought I’d share some of the things that helped me get back on my feet!
First was chicken soup. It’s not just a comforting dish your mom used to make. The warm broth and the chicken and the noodles help you feel better by breaking up all that junk that’s clogging up your head.
After that was some hot tea. It soothes the throat and warms the chest, especially with some lemon and honey.
Speaking of honey, it can be your best friend when you’re sick. The more natural it is, the better, so make sure you ask your local farmer’s market or organic grocer for the good stuff.
Your other best friend is citric acid: lemons, limes, oranges. The Vitamin C and the citric acid will encourage healing!
Of course, if you’re like me, those G-rated remedies might not do the trick by themselves, so feel free to add a little bourbon to your tea, or just to some warm water. Add some lemon and you’ve got a hot toddy! Hey, might as well feel better however you can, right?
The Spice of Blythe is: take care of yourself! Get back on your feet with the help of some of these classic remedies. And remember, if someone’s taking care of you, be extra nice to them. And if you’re taking care of someone else, don’t hold back on the bourbon.
