DALLAS -- America is a nation full of big spenders, and your friendly neighborhood mall couldn't be more happy.

Turns out, spending rose by a solid 5.5% between Black Friday and Christmas Eve. That's according to MasterCard’s holiday spending report.

Good news, right? It seems like this is just another sign the economy is turning around.

Some of the hot-ticket items are women's apparel, jewelry, furniture and spending at restaurants.

Surprisingly though, electronics sales fizzled.

A big reason for the new consumer confidence is gas prices.  They're at the lowest they've been in a few years. To you and I, it’s like instant cash in our pocket. Who doesn't love that?!

Well, don't expect that kind of feeling to end any time soon.  The federal government says drivers will save $550 on gas in 2015.

Hey, who couldn't use an extra $550 dollars in the bank?
