SAN DIEGO, CA – Sea lions can be cute and cuddly critters when performing for an audience, or hitching a ride on the back of your boat, hoping you’ll feed it some bait fish. But for Dan Carlin of San Diego, California, a close encounter with a sea lion almost turned into a one-way trip to a watery grave. Carlin was posing for a picture with a fish when a hungry sea lion jumped out of the water to grab some free food. Instead, the sea lion grabbed Carlin’s hand and arm and pulled him off the boat and into the water.
