WISE COUNTY, TX — An emotional outpour of support was felt Wednesday as officers and community members gathered to honor the life of an officer.
“Pepper’s sacrifice will never be forgotten and I’m certain that he will be greatly missed.”
K-9 Deputy Pepper was shot and killed while pursuing a suspect wanted for an outstanding warrant a week ago. Cops say 45-year-old Alan Lance Alverson opened fire, shooting Pepper several times.
But Pepper had back up. His fellow officers returned fire and killed Alverson.
Pepper is credited with saving the life of five officers in that Wise County field.
“I would like to thank these men sitting in the front row,” said Sgt. JT Manoushagian, Pepper’s partner. “Thank you for having my back. Thank you for going with me and thank you for your courageous valor exactly one week ago today.”
The two-year-old K-9 officer had only been on the force for three months before his death. Today, this hero was remembered for his fearless commitment to his brothers in blue.
“For months we did train and our bonding grew. we are both buddies and partners in blue… and brown.”
Rest in peace, Pepper.
