Fran and her owner were growing old together. But, when Fran outlived her owner… it looked like she was out of luck.
“This is a really good lesson for dog owners,” says Leslie Sans, executive director of Dallas Pets Alive! “If anything were to happen please prepare for where your dog will go.”
We know that Fran was loved in her first “Furr-ever” home… Well maybe loved a little too much.
“Probably the love was shown through treats a little excessively,” says Sans. “We called her Fat Fran for a while.”
Old, and overweight, Frans chances were slim. Being heart worm positive was a big negative.
But when Dallas Pets Alive! found Fran, they knew that their a lot of life left in the old dog.
“She was put on a healthy food diet and we just slowly got her to the point where she could start walking,” says Sans.
On “Frans Health Plan” she went from lumbering with each step to frolicking through the fields.
“When we first got her out of the shelter she could barely just huff and puff down the block and then she had to go back home,” says Sans. “Now she’s running with other dogs and just looking like a completely different dog.”
Now formerly Fat Fran is looking for a “Furr-ever” home to show off her sleek physique.
“She knows sit, she knows stay, she loves to just hang out on your lap and chill,” says Sans. “She will do anything for a treat.”
