Caramel was one of the 22,000 lucky dogs in North Texas who found “furr-ever” homes on Empty the Shelter Day back in August.

Happy ending, right?

Well, no. Caramel was one of the unlucky ones who were returned to sender.

“Unfortunately the people that adopted Caramel found out she was heart-worm positive and also claimed that she didn’t get along with their dog,” says Leslie Sans, executive director of Dallas Pets Alive!

That not-so-sweet review put Caramel on the express lane to doggie death row. But then Dallas Pets Alive! came to the rescue.

“We dog tested her in the shelter and found that she perfectly fine with those dogs that we tested her with.”

DPA sprung Caramel from lock-up and got her heart worm free.

It took about a week of freedom for her to get a new “leash” on life.

“She was a little scared, very timid at first,” says Sans. “Now she is in a week in her foster home and she’s coming out of her shell. She’s warming up. She wants to play she wants to have belly rubs.”

Now this pup, with a distinctive look, wants to bring a new owner some “furr-ever” love.

“She has the coolest coloring on her fur and she has one beautiful blue eye,” says Sans. “You’ll just see that face and fall in love with her.”

From the death row express, to jumping for joy. Caramel has been one sweet surprise.
