STEPHENVILLE, TX -- Jurors in the American Sniper Trial heard from Eddie Ray Routh's mouth on Monday. Prosecutors played video of his confession in court.
It began with Routh in the interrogation room, with his head down on the table. He sat up as an officer read his rights.
When talking about the murders, Routh said, "It's so sad it had to happen. I don't know how it happened."
"I've got tons of people eating on my soul."
"If I did not take down his soul, he was going to take mine."
The Texas Ranger asked, "You know what you did today was wrong? You understand that?"
Routh answered, "Yes, sir."
The video came after a day of testimony from several cops about their contact with Routh. One went so far as to show the boots Routh was wearing the night of the murders.
This case will come down to one question -- what was really going on in Eddie Ray Routh's head when he pulled the trigger?
