DALLAS-- Organizers of the Black Lives Matter march say they are in shock by the devastation in Dallas. Friday, they spoke out about the shocking shooting that left five police officers dead.

“Never in our wildest dreams did we, did we think that in our effort to save lives, would take lives,” Dominique Alexander with Next Generation Action Network said.

The Next Generation Action Network and other organizers wanted to set the record straight about what happened on the streets of Dallas Thursday night.

“I might have gotten, 15 or 20 feet past the section of Austin Street when I heard, bop! bop! bop! in succession. Immediately when I heard the shots, I looked up and I saw what I believe were 2 police officers that went down,” Protest organizer Rev. Jeff Hood said.

Some folks have taken to social media, blaming the organizers for inciting the tragedy, but Next Gen says they do not condone violence and will help in the investigation in any way.

“If we continue to turn to violence we are going to continue to see heartache and devastation,” Rev. Hood said.

One person who was questioned and released was protester Mark Hughes. Hughes turned himself -- and his long rifle -- into Dallas P.D. after he was told his photo was circulating on social media and national television.

Meanwhile back at Dallas City Hall, these organizers are calling for an end to violence.

“This is a devastating time for the city of Dallas, a devastating time for us as activist and  organizers," Hood said. "We can not bring about justice through violence.”
