UPDATE: Benbrook PD has charged Sofya Tsygankova with killing her two young daughters inside their home. She is still undergoing a mental evaluation. Once released, police say she will be taken to the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Department where she’ll be held on $2 million bond.

BENBROOK, Texas — It was a house filled with music. The Dad, a world-renowned pianist who won the Van Cliburn Gold Medal in 2013. That’s when Vadym Kholodenko moved his family from the Ukraine to Benbrook.

Thursday, the music stopped.

Benbrook PD says Kholodenko called 911 saying he’d found his wife stabbed multiple times and his daughters — 5-year-old Nika and 1-year-old Michela — dead in their beds.

Cops say the father is NOT a suspect and don’t believe a killer is on the loose.

“We’re still checking every avenue. We’re looking at all possibilities,” Cmdr. David Babcock said. “But we are not actively searching for anybody in particular or a particular name or person at this point.”

The medical examiner has not yet ruled on how the kids died.

“There was no visible trauma on the children,” Cmdr. Babcock explained.

Police say there was no forced entry. They are questioning Kholodenko’s wife, Sofya, to find out what happened.

The mother, who neighbors say was devoted to her kids, is recovering from physical wounds. Police say she’ll undergo a mental evaluation after that.

“She’s in recovery. It just means that once she is physically able to leave the hospital that she will be held on a mental evaluation,” said Cmdr. Babcock.

Benbrook PD says they were called to the house on Waterwood Trail twice in 2014 but won’t say why. The couple filed for divorce last November.

Terri Messer lives next door, “The children were boisterous and played a lot in the back yard.”

She says she didn’t see any sign of trouble.

Kholodenko was scheduled to be the “Guest Artist” this weekend with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra at Bass Hall. The concert will go on with another artist.

Sadly, life for the Kholodenko family has ended on a tragic note.
