PLANO, TX — Poise and proficiency are often the essential qualities necessary for aspiring prima ballerinas.

For some local young dancers hoping to make the leap to New York, those qualities are a must.

Hundreds of young dancers auditioned for a coveted spot at the prestigious School of American Ballet.

Of the more than 2,000 candidates, only 200 will be selected. Some of area students hope they are among the few.

With every pirouette, pas and plie — the dancers worked to earn a position at the school.

Dancers, take a bow – your talent is on pointe. You never know, the next prima ballerina could come from right here in North Texas.
