WICHITA, Kan. — A 2-year-old Kansas boy is recovering after having an octopus lodged in his throat while his mother’s boyfriend faces child abuse charges.

The toddler was rushed to a local hospital Tuesday night after his mother returned from work to find her boyfriend, Matthew Gallagher, 36, giving the boy CPR, according to KAKE.

Doctors removed the small octopus lodged in the boy’s throat; police say he also had injuries to his face.

Gallagher was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of child abuse, according to the report. He has since been released.

Officers told KSNW the octopus appeared to be intended for sushi.
