NEW YORK, NY -- NBC veteran anchor, Brian Williams, announced Saturday he will be off air for several days.

In a note sent from Williams on Saturday, the embattled anchor wrote, "In the midst of a career spent covering and consuming news, it has become painfully apparent to me that I am presently too much a part of the news, due to my actions."

The statement continued, "As Managing Editor of NBC Nightly News, I have decided to take myself off of my daily broadcast for the next several days, and Lester Holt has kindly agreed to sit in for me to allow us to adequately deal with this issue. Upon my return, I will continue my career-long effort to be worthy of the trust of those who place their trust in us."

Williams' credibility was making more headlines than the day`s top stories. Just Friday, NBC top brass said it was launching an internal investigation. A staff memo said a team will fact check Williams' past stories to include being in a helicopter that came under fire back in 2003 and some of his post-Katrina reports.

The anchor apologized on air Wednesday, saying he `misremembered` what happened in Iraq. In other news,  former Nightly news anchor, Tom Brokaw, is refuting reports that he wants Williams canned.

Brokaw told the Huffington Post Williams' future is up to NBC. Looks like Nightly News is really getting personal.
