DALLAS – When it comes to house hunting, it can easily become overwhelming. Is the market right? Can you afford the place you want? Where do you even start? Likewise when it comes to remodeling. Well, it’s time to clear up some of the muck.

When it comes to buying, the DFW area is hot right now. “The housing market is fantastic. Anybody moving here from the east or west coast can get so much more house for less money,” says Kathi Fleck, co-owner of Lonestar Property Solutions, a company that specializes in remodeling.

The DFW area is being saturated with new buyers, making it more of a seller’s market. In layman’s terms, if you’re looking to buy, good luck! Which is why many homeowners already with a house in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex are renovating, instead of buying new.

Fleck and her company specialize in remodeling. But she’s not one to sugarcoat things for those looking to save a buck. “Anyway you look at it, remodeling is a lot of money.”

If you’re in the market to remodel, Fleck recommends looking up companies on sites like the Better Business Bureau, or NARI (National Association of the Remodeling Industry) before deciding on a contractor.

Whether buying, remodeling, or both, Fleck wants to stress one thing: don’t stretch your bank account too far. Buy a house you can afford. And/or save enough to do the remodeling you want. That way, once everything is all said and done, you can sit back and relax in your new pad.
