FRISCO — The Cowboys hit the field today with their eyes on the regular season opener, but a ton of questions swirling about what comes after that.

The biggest is whether the team will keep Tony Romo on the active roster, or put him on the IR, which would free up a spot on the team, but would guarantee that Tony would miss the first eight weeks. Coach Garrett was his usual noncommittal self on the subject.

“Currently, he’s on the 53 man roster and again we’ll get some more information here over the next 48 hours and make a determination as to what his status will be going forward,” Garrett said.

In the meantime, the Boys welcomed Mark Sanchez to town. Yeah, the Mark Sanchez of “The Butt Fumble” infamy.

But Dallas believes in him as a veteran backup and Sanchez is ready to help in any way he can.

“The most important thing is that you’ve got to help the guy on the field, and right now that’s Dak, and do everything you can to help him,” said Sanchez. “Anything that I know that I can help him with, I’ve played against the NFC East before, I’ve played against a lot of the teams we’re going to see. I know what it’s like to be a rookie starter as well.”

So here’s a quick recap of your 2016 Cowboys quarterbacking carousel:

To start training camp, Romo was your starter, Kellen Moore was your backup and Dak Prescott and Jameill Showers were fighting for the third spot.

Then Moore got hurt, Dak moved up, Romo got hurt, Dak moved up again, Dallas signed a guy named Jerrod Johnson as a one game emergency QB for the preseason, immediately cut him, then cut Showers to pick up Sanchez, all while Romo’s status on the active roster stays completely up in the air.

Yeah, without a game being played, the Cowboys have, as usual, offered us more drama and intrigue than a normal team has all season.
