DALLAS — “This isn’t you or me. This is Johnny Manziel.”

That was the reminder offered from Dallas lawyer David Finn Monday. Two years ago, we’d be jealous of that statement.

Now, not so much.

Johnny Football is one step closer to the possibility of becoming Johnny Jailbird thanks to an indictment from the Dallas District Attorney’s Office.

Manziel was accused of assaulting ex-girlfriend Colleen Crowley in January, but DPD didn’t arrest or charge the former Heisman winner at that time.

A grand jury, though, apparently saw things differently.

Manziel is accused of “intentionally and knowingly and recklessly (causing) bodily injury to” his former girlfriend, Colleen Crowley, according to the indictment.

“My sense is, and this is just my feeling, I don’t know this, that there was some video the grand jurors found disturbing,” Finn said.

Attorney Finn, a former Dallas Family Violence Court judge, says it’s one in 10,000 for a misdemeanor like this one to turn into an indictment.

Now there are a couple cards on the table, none of which having Manziel’s face on the front and stats on the back.

“The hard question for Johnny’s going to be, ‘Do I want to go to rehab and do this batterers intervention counseling and anger management, or do I want to play hard ball?’” Finn said.

Would it really surprise you if Manziel — the same guy who lost his job, two agents and all his endorsement deals in the past couple months — yet still had to play in a ball pit at Coachella, would play hardball?

Finn said, “If he doesn’t wanna go to rehab, that’s going to be a problem because I think at that point the DA’s office is going to say, ‘The whole world knows we’ve got an issue here. You may be the last one to know, but if you don’t want to help yourself, help yourself to a jury trial.’”

It’s definitely not a great time to be Johnny Football, but hey! At least Taco Time is hiring!
