DALLAS, TX -- The Jeff Phillips Tribute is a skateboarding competition honoring the pioneering Dallas skater who committed suicide in 1993.

“He used to beat Tony Hawk,” says event organizer Mike Crum. “He was my friend he was my mentor and I grew up skating with him.”

NewsFix attended Saturday's event, which benefited the Suicide and Crisis Center of North Dallas.
