Peterson was hoping to return to work immediately after pleading no contest on Tuesday to reckless assault, related to earlier accusations of child abuse; but the NFL said “no” to a quick reinstatement request from Peterson’s legal team.
Part of the court’s plea deal is two years probation, a $4,000 fine, 80 hours of community service, parenting classes — the list goes on. All this to avoid more serious penalties off the field.
Nike has also kicked Peterson from their team by suspending his contract.
The brand company says, “Nike in no way condones child abuse or domestic violence of any kind and has shared our concerns with the NFL.”
The NFL released a statement saying they will review the matter and cannot provide a timetable for Peterson’s potential return.
Many wonder if Peterson will get the short end of the stick, so to speak.
