When the temperature drops, the cold spreads.

I’m not talking about winter coming, I’m talking about the common cold.

According to WebMD, when the body temperature falls after being exposed to cold air so too does the immune system’s ability to fight back the cold.

But don’t fret, Shape Magazine has a guide that includes tips to help you kick that cold in 5 days.

Day 1
Take some probiotics. Taking these little critters daily can help shave off about two days of your cold and severely lessen your symptoms.

Also, use a nasal saline rinse three times a day to clean out the virus and suck on some zinc. Start taking zinc lozenges as soon as you notice symptoms.

Day 2
Get plenty of sleep. When you don’t get enough sleep, your immune system doesn’t work effectively…so sleep in.

If you can, fit in a 30 to 60 minute workout to raise your body temperature to burn out the virus but if you’re already feeling feverish, you can skip the workout.

Day 3
Try some turmeric. This yellow spice has an anti-inflammatory chemical that can stop the cold virus in it’s tracks…or at the very least slow it down.

Day 4
Stretch your body out! Do some light yoga or take a walk. Anything that gets your heart rate up and blood flowing will help circulate your white blood cells.

You’ll also be tempted to blow your nose around the clock but that’ll just irritate the mucus membrane and prolong the cold. Use a saline spray to just before blowing your nose to soften mucus so you don’t have to excessively huff and puff.

Day 5
Spot-treat the left over symptoms. Avoid taking cold specific medication…you don’t need all the extra ingredients. Whatever remaining symptoms you have, treat those individually.

For example, treat your cough with honey and take an antihistamine for a runny nose.
