IRVING, TX - No, Halloween didn't come early; it was Dallas Comic Con Fan Days taking over the Irving Convention Center.

“It`s a celebration of all things fandom,” the event’s program director Mark Walters said. “People that want to celebrate pop culture, whatever they may be in to, there`s so many different genres represented here today.”

Organizers estimated that as many as 20,000 people turned out for the event on Saturday.

Fans got a chance to meet stars like Elijah Wood and Sean Astin, peruse the ultimate nerd flea market, and of course show off their costumes! More importantly, a lot of these folks use their 'powers' for good.

Two Star Wars fan groups, the 501st Legion and the Rebel Legion, were on hand to help raise money and awareness for Captain Hope’s Kids, a local charity that cares for homeless children. The event brings fans of all kids together.

“If you want to get yourself involved in a sci-i series and you realize there are a lot of people who feel the same way you do about it and to find a place where you can all get together and share the love for that, who wouldn`t want to do that?” Walters asked.

So, whether you read Tolkien or Rowling, are a Whovian or a Trekkie, DC fan or Marvel, you`re welcome at Dallas Comic Con.
