FORT WORTH — If anyone has earned the title of “Hometown Hero,” it’s Officer Matt Pearce.
“I don’t have a lot more to say other than thank you,” he said in a video posted on Fort Worth PD’s Twitter page.

Pearce is finally going home after spending nearly two months recovering from the darkest day of his life. Back in march, Pearce was shot seven times in a shootout with two suspects.
Two of the bullets pierced his chest, reportedly bruising his heart — he was also shot in the face.
Pearce was in critical condition at JPS before things started to turn around. He was then transferred to Texas Rehabilitation Hospital where he’s started his journey to recovery.
A GoFundMe page has raised over $87,000 dollars and counting.
Restaurants like Chick-Fil-A stepped up to hold fundraisers and sell #TeamPearce shirts.
Tuesday afternoon, in a special send-off ceremony, Pearce was released from the hospital and escorted home by his comrades at Fort Worth PD.
