BISHOP ARTS DISTRICT- When it comes to dressing the part, Cassie MacGregor claims the right hat can put you heads above in the world of fashion.
“It should help express what’s on the inside, what’s on the outside, and that’s what makes people stand up straighter and wear it with a little angle — and feel really good in it,” Cassie explained.
Owner, stylist, designer, and craftswoman — it’s quite clear Cassie wears all the hats at her shop, The House of MacGregor. For eight years, her handmade hat boutique has sat atop an old automotive garage and snazzy restaurant in the Bishop Arts District. Cassie creates custom toppers for those looking to play head games with their fashion sense.
“We have a little bit of a mix. We do a lot of men who are kind of looking for a hat that their grandfather used to have, “she said. “Then our women come in and they’re much more spontaneous!”
Cassie’s love for hats started at an early age when she fell in love with the show Little House on the Prairie.
“When I was little, I loved Little House on the Prairie and there’s all these pictures of me with my little bonnet on,” Cassie explained.
Although Cassie crowns Dallas as her hometown, she tips her hat to New York City for gaining the experience she needs to thrive in the business. There she worked under several different hat makers in the city and took classes at the Fashion Institute of Technology.
“I was living in New York about 10 years ago and wanted to do something in the city and they offered fashion classes at the fashion school there. They had hat making so I thought I’d take it,” she added.
Back here in Dallas, Cassie is known to put a feminine touch on a Kentucky Derby-styled straw or add a detailed brim on a fedora fit for a beau!
“People like to dress here, they like to dress nice,” she said.
So, whether you’re a lady or lad, If you’re looking for a hat to top off your fit, The House of MacGregor might be your next Fashion Fix!
