Family Mourns 16 Year-Old Fatally Shot by Off-Duty Cop

ADDISON - A North Texas family is in mourning following a fatal shooting that killed a 16 year-old in Addison Sunday evening. Police say an off-duty officer from Farmers Branch saw someone breaking into a car in an apartment complex and intervened.

Cops say there was a chase to Spring Valley and Marsh, where shots were fired. Jose Raul Cruz was pronounced dead at the scene. Cops say he was driving the getaway car. The passenger was wounded and taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital.

Farmers Branch police identified the cop as Ken Johnson. He's been assigned to the patrol division since joining the department last year; he wasn't injured during the shooting.

A memorial is growing at the shooting scene. Everyone's waiting for answers about what went down that led to a young man's death.
