DALLAS - As the nation mourns the loss of the five officers killed in last week's ambush in Downtown Dallas the officers' respective families begin the process of laying their loved ones to rest.

On Tuesday, there was a public visitation held for Sergeant Michael Smith at Mary Immaculate Church in Farmers Branch. Fellow officers will stand guard throughout the night until a funeral mass for family and friends Wednesday morning. The civic funeral will be held Thursday at the Watermark Church.

Private visitations were held for Officer Lorne Ahrens and DART Officer Brent Thompson. Thompson's funeral is Wednesday at The Potter's house while Ahrens' funeral takes place on the same day at Prestonwood Baptist Church.

Officer Michael Krol's visitation will take place Thursday with the funeral happening Friday morning, also at Prestonwood Baptist Church.

Visitation for Officer Patrick Zamarippa will be held Friday, with funeral services taking place Saturday at the Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center.

In what's sure to be a difficult week ahead, we're reminded that although the bodies of these officers will be put to rest, the memory of their bravery in service will never be buried.
