DALLAS — Residents of the DFW area know all too well what those in Baton Rouge, Louisiana feel like after news that multiple officers were shot and killed Sunday morning.
“I’ll tell ya, today is another sad day for our country,” said John Mohnickey, the founder of the group All Lives Matter. “I thought this [ Dallas ] event was gonna be the culmination of some of this horrific tragedy that our country has been enduring and yet to find out again today that officers were, again, seemingly ambushed. It’s just heartbreaking.”
“This is ridiculous nonsense, and I don’t know where to point the blame or anything, but also the fact that what’s going on is wrong. It’s very wrong,” said another visitor to the DPD memorial when told about the ambush in Baton Rouge.
Chief David Brown – who’s had quite an emotional week himself – sent out his thoughts and prayers to Baton Rouge with this tweet:
Our thoughts and prayers are with Baton Rouge Police. @BRPD #PrayforBatonRouge

As did Mayor Mike Rawlings, with this statement, saying in part, “Violence against our police officers under any circumstances is not acceptable and poses a grave threat to all of us. those peacefully protesting police across the country must swiftly condemn this type of violence against law enforcement.”
Other local law enforcement agencies in North Texas also sent out their condolences via Twitter as well:

Texas Governor Greg Abbott also tweeted out his reaction:
I ask for Texans to pray for officers killed & injured in #BatonRouge. It's time for us to unite as Americans to say no more.

Uniting as a people: something North Texas did a lot of in the past week. Hopefully, the rest of the country does the same.
