COLLIN COUNTY — Here’s a warning for pet owners in Collin County. The Paws and Claws Animal Clinic in Plano says two dogs have already died from a rare disease — and more cases are possible.

The bacterial disease is called leptospyrosis. It’s transmitted through contact with rodents or their droppings and can affect both animals and humans.

If you think your pet may be at risk, a blood test is available and there’s also a vaccine.
