DALLAS - Shocking video will stop you in your tracks. School bus stop arm camera shows a vehicle hitting a student walking across the street, with the bus stop sign showing.

Surprisingly, 13 million stop arm violations were recorded last school year across the nation.  It happens all too often in Dallas. Here are the top five most obstructed intersections:

  • 2900-3000 block of Harry Hines
  • 6000 block of East Northwest Highway
  • 13500 block North Central Expressway North service road
  • 5700 block of Bellcrest Drive
  • 9900 block of Lingo Lane -- a school is right across the street

That’s why Dallas County Schools are taking a stand.

“I get so angry when I see those [videos] because those drivers, just to save a few minutes they’ll put a kid at risk,” said Larry Duncan, Board President of Dallas County Schools.

Bus Drivers all over are kicking off a violation count Wednesday noting violations like these.  Thankfully, Dallas County Schools has these cameras, so everything is caught on tape.

And these violations come at a hefty price.

“If a police officer witnesses first hand, they can issue a criminal penalty up to $1,000,” Duncan added.  “The second time, it could be a felony.”

And if you’re caught on tape, that could be a $300 dollar citation.  It pays to pay attention.
