DALLAS --  An off-duty Dallas officer shot and killed a man Monday afternoon at a truck stop near I-20 and Bonnie View Road.

DPD says the uniformed officer was a second job at the Flying J Truck Stop when he got reports of a nearby shooting. He went to investigate and that's when he saw two men running.

Police say as the officer tackled one guy, the other shot at him, jumped in a Dodge pick-up truck and tried to run him over. That's when the officer says he opened fire, hitting the driver.

The driver was pronounced dead at Baylor Hospital. No officers were hurt.

Police say it's unclear why the men were running and shooting in the first place.
