FRISCO– The Dallas Cowboys have released quarterback Jameill Showers.

This move did not come as a shock to many, since the Cowboys signed veteran quarterback Mark Sanchez on Saturday. For now, it seems Sanchez will be the backup quarterback to rookie sensation Dak Prescott.

If Showers is not picked up by another NFL team, he could be added to the Cowboys’ practice squad.

The Cowboys also made another important roster move concerning Tony Romo. He was not added to the injured reserve list, meaning he could be back on the field sooner than expected. Romo suffered a fractured back in his first series back against the Seattle Seahawks. It was the first time he had played in a game since breaking his collarbone during the 2015 season.
