AUSTIN -- In Texas, we like to make things official. We have an official bird, an official flower and even an official state pepper.

Who knew?

But what about what we wear? We already have a state shoe -- the cowboy boot. But what good are boots without the hat to match?

Well, one congresswoman is looking to fix all that by making the cowboy hat the official headgear of Texas.

State Rep. Marsha Farney from Burnet proposed the bill and thinks it's long overdue.

"We were surprised that the hat was not already official. That's when we proposed resolution number 35," Rep. Farney said.

Pretty sure the City of Garland can't wait for the hat to become the law of the land since they've been dubbed the official Cowboy Hat capital of Texas.

The city's four cowboy hat factories make more than a million hats a year.

Hey, if the bill passes, bet you'll be the first to get an official tip of the ole hat.
