OAK CLIFF -- Who doesn't love a good southern brunch? Well, Pink Magnolia in Oak Cliff is a fresh new spot, serving up all the oldies but goodies.
And you have Houston native and executive chef Blythe Beck to thank for that.
"I love learning from Grandma's how to make biscuits, and mustard greens and fried chicken, and that kind of comfort food is a part of who I am. And it's what I do well,” Beck said. "I mean, I made a biscuit and it changed my life."
But why the name Pink Magnolia?
"I'm all about pink and positive. It's real tough to be grumpy wearing pink,” Beck said.
And "magnolia" is a symbol of strength and hospitality. Put 'em together and you have a spot that's serving up things like: cayenne and garlic shrimp, grits with jalapeno bacon, chocolate French toast with a Nutella drizzle, he hoe cake stack with spicy sausage and bourbon maple syrup, and biscuits with cayenne bourbon butter.
"All the food is very recognizable, but we just make it a little bit naughtier,” Beck said.
Chew on This, Blythe created a special dish to pay homage to their neighborhood: The Oak Cliff Cristo, "That's made of French toast and thick sliced turkey ham and Swiss with homemade strawberry preserves."
Get this, one of the most special things about Pink Magnolia takes place in their restroom. The walls are lined with home recipes.
