DALLAS -- By now, we all know who's running in this year's presidential election. But when it comes to actually getting out to vote, you might be surprised there aren't really a lot of people registered. Especially young folk.

Well, that's one thing entertainment host and community activist Tenay Mathis wants to change.

"For millennials, I started to think about what we could do to get them motivated," Mathis said. "I was like, 'Let's throw a concert. Let's throw something fun as an incentive to motivation to get them involved.' And I came up with the Ballot Ball."

The Ballot Ball is a concert that will help you register to vote -- as well as answer questions about the process.

But Mathis isn't primarily concerned with the presidential election; it's the local elections she's pushing. And it took the water crisis in Flint, Michigan and the proposed evictions of folks in Dallas' Tent City, to open Mathis' eyes.

"I started to see who the people were that were calling these shots and they were all elected officials," Mathis said. "And I was like, 'Oh, so this is our fault.' We haven't taken the time to really research or care about the local elections in our city because we can say who we want to call the shots for our lives. It starts here at home."

So if you're looking to get aboard the voting train at the concert, you only need one thing.

"If you need to register, just bring your i.d.,' Mathis told NewsFix.

And be ready to vibe out. The concert, which takes place 7pm - 2am this Thursday at the Gas Monkey, will feature a slew of DJ's and entertainment - including a live performance from Dallas' own Dorrough.

Here's hoping this is encouragement if you're on the fence about how to handle this election.

"Your voice is your vote,' Mathis said.
