American Idol: The Curse

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — A singer, handpicked from the crowds, ready to embark on American Idol. It was the show that made the American dream a reality for some but for others, the American dream has turned into something that’s more of a nightmare.

For example, Joanne Bordello, a contestant on season seven of American idol, passed away of cancer in 2014. Paula Goodspeed, of season five, committed suicide outside of Paula Abdul’s home in 2008. Another contestant, Alexis Cohen, was killed in a hit and run accident in New Jersey.

And most recently, on Friday, Rikki Smith, a contestant on season two of American Idol, was killed in a car crash in Oklahoma. He was 36.

All idol contestants, all taken too soon! Which begs the question, is there an American Idol curse?

Whatever it may be, we are hoping that these tragedies, much like the show, come to a close.
