DALLAS - It’s the final chapter in a long saga. SMU Police Officer Mark McCullers was laid to rest Monday.  He went missing July 5 when his car was swept away in Turtle creek floodwaters.

Last month, there was a funeral fit for a king for McCullers. Meanwhile, fellow SMU officers were still on the lookout for McCullers' body.

"We didn't want to give up of course and we promised his wife that, and as you probably know his sergeant was the one that actually found him," SMU Police Chief Richard Shafer said.

McCullers' body was found last week on the Trinity river. It was a bittersweet moment for his wife.

"You want to jump for joy and at the same time, you want to fall to the floor and weep," said Tiffany McCullers.

Although it took almost two months, there’s finally closure for his family.
