DALLAS -- There are all kinds of potential dangers you might see on the way to school.

A car.

A dog.

A cranky neighbor.

An alligator.

Wait. What?

Yeah, a seven-foot gator turned up near Steam Elementary in southern Dallas early Wednesday morning. Cops even brought out their helicopter to help animal control and the game warden catch the guy.

Nobody was hurt and they took the gator to a game preserve long before the kids got to school.

It's just the latest brush with nature in the big city. Folks in Plano have been talking about the bobcats spotted in one neighborhood a few weeks ago.

Coyote sightings are pretty common around the area.

And feral hogs have been known to tear up yards.

You gotta remember: in most cases, the critters were here before we were. Don't be surprised when one turns up near you.
