With rumors still swirling about whether “The Vampire Diaries” Season 8 will be its last — say it ain’t so! — fans are eager to figure out what each character’s “endgame” will be.
Will Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) finally reunite? Will Bonnie (Kat Graham) miraculously survive the series even though her death is the only way for Elena to return? Will Alaric (Matt Davis) finally find one moment of peace without supernatural threats at his door? Could Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Caroline (Candice King) end up getting that June wedding she talked about way back in the pilot?

Caroline’s “endgame” in particular is one of the most controversial topics up for discussion, mostly because she’s got chemistry with every male character she’s ever come into contact with. It must be tough being so lovable.
In a perfect world, Caroline would ditch all the boys and all the babies and take off for parts unknown on an adventure all her own, but that’s probably not what fans want to see.
To help you sort out the mess that has been Caroline Forbes’ love life, we’ve pulled together all the serious contenders for her heart over the past seven years. You decide which one you think is the best fit for this vampire barbie.
Matt Donovan
It’s almost hard to remember way back when Matt (Zach Roerig) and Caroline were a thing, but the first two seasons of “The Vampire Diaries” sometimes feel like stepping into a time warp. Now that Matt hates vampires and has lost his fiancee, and Caroline has magically birthed two baby witches from her vampire womb… a romance between these two is looking complicated. Still, Season 8 could throw us some curve balls, and it might be nice to return to some long lost storylines like this one.
Tyler Lockwood
Tyler (Michael Trevino) was Caroline’s first love, and watching their relationship fall apart — multiple times — felt like the worst kind of torture. They definitely had the forbidden love thing going on between a werewolf and a vampire, and if push came to shove, we’d be happy watching these two ride off into the sunset together. They’re both a little older and a little wiser thanks to the recent time jump, so who’s to say they won’t discover there’s really nothing like your first love.

Klaus Mikaelson
Nothing says endgame like a promise to be a girl’s “last love,” and Klaus (Joseph Morgan) pretty much has the market cornered on epic declarations of love and promises of beautiful futures. There’s something wonderfully quixotic about the prospect of Klaus and Caroline taking off together — preferably to some fabulous international locations — when all is said and done. Plus, we don’t think fans would ever turn down the idea of Caroline appearing on “The Originals” if her time on “The Vampire Diaries” runs out.
Stefan Salvatore
There’s a lovely kind of symmetry, looking back on the first episode of “The Vampire Diaries” when Caroline was convinced she and Stefan would end up together. Through all the break-ups, make-ups and making out, these two best friends have become each others’ whole world, and their love story has become a beautiful part of the series. Plus, you have to admit a June wedding would be a hell of a way to bring them full circle.
Alaric Saltzman
We’d honestly be shocked if Alaric comes out on top of this debate, but there’s something to be said for an underdog. Alaric and Caroline share a pretty special bond of parenthood, and in the end, he did what was best for her and let her go when he knew that was what she wanted. Plus, out of all of Caroline’s love interests, Alaric was the only one to actually put a ring on it, so we tip our hat to his “slow and steady wins the race” mentality.
