The Man in the Iron Mask is…

There you have it! The long mystery of the man in the iron mask on “The Flash” is over and it turns out the one under all that metal is none other than — the real Jay Garrick.

That’s right, the man Hunter Zolomon was pretending to be is a real guy — from a different world — and he’s a speedster. Meet the original Flash, at least from the comics’ point of view.

After the reveal that Garrick was a name in Barry’s family, it’s incredibly fitting that John Wesley Shipp slide into that role. Fans had to say goodbye to Henry Allen with his death in the last episode, but now there’s plenty of possibilities — and one that’s most likely.

The Justice Society of America has arrived on “Legends of Tomorrow” and comic book fans know just how important Jay is to that group. Will he be able to play a role in it, though?

In the end, Garrick took Harry (Tom Cavanagh) and Jesse (Violet Beane) home, en route to Earth-3. With him out of the picture, will “Legends” producers have a way to fit him into that story? Given that Barry evidently undid most of the major events of his life by running back in time to save his mom, who knows what the plan is?

At the very least, we can feel safe knowing fans haven’t seen the last of Shipp in some form.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he says, “I’ve been given permission to say that yes, they have all kinds of exciting and interesting plans for me, that are interesting not only in the context of the storyline, but they continue to spin out, which will be very challenging for me as an actor. That’s all I’m allowed to say about that. But yes, I will be back next season.”

Hopefully that means more of the real Jay Garrick and his amazing Flash suit.
