AUSTIN - The Texas Senate has approved an anti-abortion bill that would prevent government agencies to enter in financial contracts with abortion providers and their affiliated clinics.
Overnight, Senate Bill 4 passed by a 21 to 10 vote.
State law already prevented tax dollars from paying for abortions and SB4 broadens the ban to associated clinics.
Deomcrats opposed the bill worrying it would force the closure of those clinics that provide health care services.
A second vote is needed before the bill is sent to the House.
