WEST DALLAS -- Dallas Wings All-Star Rookie Aerial Powers visited with girls and young women at the West Dallas campus of Girls Inc. of Metropolitan Dallas Wednesday to encourage participation in sports on National Girls & Women in Sports Day.

Powers was the WNBA's 5th overall draft pick in 2016 and plays for the Dallas Wings.

"I'm very excited to participate in this event. I mean, girls all over need role models and me -- as a WNBA player -- I would love to be one for them. So if I can do anything to help them, even if it's giving them advice, I would love to do that," Powers said.

Several girls received Aerial Powers Kenya doll from Powers and the Dallas Sports Commission.

"It's funny because I looked up you know, obviously, to my parents, but I looked up to a couple girls in the WNBA that are currently playing; I always just admire their hard work ethic and just their mentality on and off the floor," Powers said.
